Linen of Words
Linen of Words is a shape-shifting musical project led by Belgian-American composer and performer Annick Odom. Originally founded as a new music collective in 2020, the ensemble began with a focus on experimental chamber works and collaborative composition. With support from Fonds Podiumkunsten in the Netherlands, the group toured nationally during the summer of 2020. The founding lineup featured Annick Odom (voice, clarinet, and double bass), Michela Amici (harp), Leah Plave (cello), and Julie Hasfjord (voice).
Since Annick’s return to the U.S.—first to Detroit, Michigan, and later to her hometown of Morgantown, West Virginia--Linen of Words has evolved into a dynamic, artist-driven ensemble centered on her original works. The project now blends storytelling, song, and improvisation, drawing inspiration from Appalachian ballads, fiddle tunes, and tall tales. The current iteration of the group features a rotating cast of exceptional musicians from diverse musical backgrounds.
Annick is currently recording an album of original compositions and reimagined folk ballads, featuring contributions from Jonathan Hammonds (bass), Kenji Lee (saxophone), Walter Prettyman (fiddle), Meg Rohrer (violin), Cameron Wilson (drums), Jane Rogers (vibraphone), Yuma Uesaka (bass clarinet), Tessa Patterson, Hannah Lewis, and Hannah Standiford (voices), Chance McCoy (banjo), Kirsten Carey (guitar), among others.
