Musical Projects
Annick Odom’s musical projects span solo bass-and-voice performances, folk and experimental ensembles, improvisation, collaborative composition, and community dance traditions. From her shape-shifting ensemble Linen of Words and the Paris-based trio Sweet Joe Pye to Pittsburgh-based Wake Robin, her square dance calling, and her past interdisciplinary collaborations, these projects reflect the full range of her work across Appalachian, experimental, and narrative music. Here you can view a list of commissions, premieres, and recordings.
West Virginia, My HomeAnnick’s solo work, primarily for bass and voice, is both an artistic experiment and a practical response to a life in motion. Drawing on her roots in folk music, improvisation, and her experience as a performer-composer, these performances explore how one person can create expansive and intimate sound worlds with just voice and bass. As a multi-instrumentalist and interdisciplinary artist, she also sometimes adds crankies (moving panoramas), clarinet, fiddle, and guitar to her performances.

Linen of WordsThe new music collective, Linen of Words, has existed since 2020, in various forms. Currently, Annick is recording an album which will share her own compositions and arrangements of folk ballads. She has invited a myriad of musicians, mostly from her time in Detroit, to join her on the album.

Wake RobinWake Robin is a newly-formed folk group featuring Hannah Standiford, Judy Swanson, and Annick Odom. The band draws from old-time traditions, the folk revival, early bluegrass, and their own original songwriting woven together with close harmonies.

Sweet Joe PyeA transatlantic old-time-inspired trio in Paris, Sweet Joe Pye shares a mix of ballads and fiddle tunes hailing from the Appalachian mountains as well as original compositions. They put out an EP in 2024 which received a lot of great press.
